He Knew

He knew not to enter into the gates of my love until he was ready. “Are you finally ready?” I asked him. “Yes,” he said. I looked at him. I could detect his rapid heartbeat, his confusion, his slight trepidation. “What is it?” I asked. “Are you still confused?” He looked at me, searing my soul with his stare. “Not anymore. Just a little broken.” “My love is strong enough to save us both,” I told him softly yet passionately. “I know,” he replied.

We smiled at one another. Souls were finally one. And there was peace.
